You might feel like you have been scammed after using any paid or free online people search engine. I know many people that felt that way, having used just about any well known people locator out there!

That is because people finders many times only find old data for you. I am sure anyone would if they need someones address and they pay to get it, but then end up with an address that is no longer valid.

Some people look-up systems will bill you monthly, even though they don't state clearly that the fee you are paying is a monthly fee...

• Another tip when buying results (if you feel you have to), try their customer service before buying! You don't find any customer service number? No one replies to your email? Then be sure not to use that people finder!

And be prepared that even though a people locator says it has the information you need, it might later turn out that the info is old or even belongs to another person and not the one you were looking for. This happens a lot, so don't expect too much.

Free online people search engines as well as paid people search engines are just what the name says - engines. Engines that search public records, their own databases, and whatever is available elsewhere on the Internet.

When speaking of protecting yourself... make sure you too are honest and good-willed in your own people find search.

While most people searches are done by those who are searching for lost friends, old schoolmates and relatives, a part of them are done by those who would like to find a biological parent or a parent they have lost contact with due to a separation.
