Be aware when a people search claims it is a totally free people finder. Because in many cases they don't give you very much information about the old friend you are trying to find, and later you might be asked if you want more detailed results or other services, which you will have to pay for. After having done all of this, you should be on a good way toward finding the person you are looking for. The Second Step - An important free step! - If you don't find any good results after using the search engines mentioned above, you can try the second step. The Third Step - No good free people finder out there? No worries! you can do your own "detective work" instead! Start by thinking of things you know about this person you are looking for. Alex from the detective agency Personal Security Solutions says following: "It is good to remember that sometimes even the smallest piece of information can be helpful in your search". You should sit down and look over what information you have about the person you are looking for: - name - date and place of birth or age - cities where the person lived in his/her childhood - address or the city where the person lives - where he/she studied or worked - relatives, friends... - information about his/her hobbies With this information you can go forward. Contact friends, relatives, neighbors, the old workplace, the old school or college... This third step will normally reveal some important clues on the person you are trying to locate. Many times you will find a relative, another old friend or someone else who has this persons contact details.
Some people finders have this policy: No results - no fee. Meaning, you will pay for the results if they have them. If you cannot find the person you are looking for with any of the free ways, maybe it would be a good idea after all to pay for some results. But once you get the results, make sure they are accurate. Because you need to be a little careful when you see a website saying they have the information you need, but you should pay first. Private Detective Tom Collins says, "there is for example a site that offers some of the information for free, but the catch is how they charge for a membership to gain access to photo's or other links they reveal after a name search. If you pay, but then realize your results are useless, you need to request a refund. I also heard that one people search has a lot of outdated search results in their database, and that is of course also not good for the searcher.
